Fusarium Questions
Default Fusarium Questions

I repotted and divided a few of my cattleyas.

I did not enjoy it at all. All those roots tangled up.
I really wanted to just throw them all away. lol

Well, I did throw away some because when I made a cut on the rhizome, almost all my cattleya had this purple ring. I was horrified!!!

I was thinking, 'oh my, all this time! What if it got onto my lady slippers?'

Only one cattleya was free of that ring.

Four of them had about less than a quarter ring.
These are the ones I did not toss, but maybe I should throw them all away?

Also, for those of you who have cut many many cattleyas, do all fusarium free plants have completely whitish green section when cut?

I am asking this because one plant had this very very thin and subtle ring but I was not sure if that is a sign of very early infection or just natural part of the plant.

Now I'm freaking out.

Help!!!!!

It is hard to evaluate without pictures, but if these Cattleyas show other signs of Fusarium, and the dreaded purple ring, then it's Fusarium

More on the disease is given here Orchid Diseases
or here (much of which is from the same source) http://rockhamptonorchidsociety.com....Sue_Bottom.pdf

You can try treatment with one of the fungicides listed here for treating fusarium http://www.smokymtnorchidsociety.com...idDiseases.pdf
