Topical remedies are fine but the ants come right back. Terro or Rays scheme is good but if you want to get rid of them, buy commercially available ant bait and sprinkle it around your GH. Then follow the ant trail back to their nest entrances and sprinkle it around there. Get rid of the ants all together. They love to nest under driveways and foundations. They even nest under street pavement. The ant bait is a dry granular type poison.

The bait is just boric acid mixed with corn syrup. Ants take it back to their nests and it kills them all. I also sprinkle boric acid around all baseboards and sweep it as close as possible to the wall.

I like the coffee grounds idea, too.

Coffee grounds also add a hint of acidity to your plants media works wonders for my hydrangea and Gardenia. I also use cornmeal around my plants. The ants eat it and blow up. from cornmeal expanding. Works wonders for me and I am not using hard core toxins outside where my dog or any of the wild life wont get sick from them.

Oh and being a country kid who used to have a big garden. Hot coffee that you are not going to drink poured over the ants bed kills the little buggers too and keeps them away. Kept my bare feet fire ant bite free.

Lucky u. The ones I allow are the giant red ants. They feed horned toads and kill fire ants. So they are my favorites. We also have spider wasps thats why I try and use only natural bugs sprays I want those wasps to stay and eat the spiders.

Put the bait near the ant hole and cover with a tuna can upside down with some way to elevate one edge so the ants can get it and take it back to the nest without endangering any other critters.
