One other thing I have read too, about dealing with mealybugs, is that repotting does go a long way toward controlling an infestation.

So I would take the plants out of the pot before spraying with any insecticide and I would pitch the old media in the garbage and start with fresh stuff.

Someone here recommended that I give the new media a light spray with the insecticide before potting my orchids back up and that seems to have been very effective. I haven't seen a single mealybug since I treated. I will continue to treat for 8 weeks, but since I'm not seeing anymore bugs, I thought I would pass along the advice.

Good luck to both of us!

how is it going? I hope you have it under control now....with so many orchids, you really must establish a regular routine of pest control....by spraying every two weeks with SOMETHING you wont have the problem at all anymore! I used to alternate every two weeks with liquid seven and a systemic.....I mixed insecticidal soap with both insecticides to provide a 'spreader/sticker', which holds the insecticide to the plant to ensure optimum coverage....while doing the spraying, I sprayed EVERYTHING buds and all, and never had a problem with any harm coming to flowers....of course, a white flower will show some spotting, even when sprayed with plain water, lol....but, if you have mealies, you need to spray flowers too as they hide there...its hard to repot everything, but you should if you have bad scale or mealies...otherwise, spray the media very well, and keep up with a two week spray schedule....good luck!

Thanks everyone for the advice. This past week I've been in and out of the hospital with a family member and couldn't keep up with the messages or treat my orchids with any insecticides. I will re-read the messages and keep you all posted on how it goes with "My Pesty Pests"....lol. Blessings to all :-)

*UPDATE* Hi everyone! I want to let you all know that "for now" I think I have everything under control. I currently have about 17 Vandas, 12 Dens, a few Phals & Cattleyas with flowers/spikes/buds. I've been on a 2-3 week insecticide schedule using Malathion, Bayer Complete, Insecticidal Soap, 3 in 1 Fungicide and also spraying with alcohol from time to time. I still haven't gotten around to repotting everything, but eventually I will. Again, I want to thank all of you for the advise given..
