not sure if these are harmful to orchids as my research says they are predatory, but I noticed them after watering a 6in orchid potted in sphagnum moss. For some reason I took a close look at the clear pot after watering - and then noticed hundreds of larvae scurrying around, and also at least 2 adults. The larvae are white, and in varying sizes. The adults are a brick-red and about 3/4in long.
I watered the pot with a neem oil solution - and presto, they died on contact.
Has anyone any further info on these ? I am now wondering what these were living off of/feeding on......
