Need Diagnosis for Phalaenopsis with Yellowing Leaves Male
Default Need Diagnosis for Phalaenopsis with Yellowing Leaves

Hello all!

So! I decided to try to save a sad looking orchid that was marked for just $2 from a Stop and Shop.

The first thing that I did was repot it and remove all of the bad roots that I managed to find. It's been about 1 full week since I got him/her and I am noticing that 2 of the bottom most leaves are turn yellower and yellower.

Can anyone help me determine what's going on with the Phalaenopsis? I don't seem to see any bad or rotted roots or anything. I don't think it's over/under watering as I only watered him/her once and the roots all look pretty healthy and happy?

Photos were taken after I did my weekly watering!

I wouldn't worry too much, this happens to me all the time when I repot a new phal. Could be that some of the roots you can't see are dying and the plant is getting rid of some of it's leaves because it can't sustain them as well as before or it's using their energy reserves. Or it could just be the plant shedding it's lower leaves as they tend to do. Unless it starts getting worse and more leaves start dropping I would just let it get adjusted, grow new roots, and I'm sure it will be fine.

Ok, great! what a relief! haha.
As a precaution or to further help the plant, should I remove the two yellowing leaves or should I just leave them be? I'm also going to assume that the leaves won't be turning back to green right?

No they won't be turning back to green, and I would advise against removing them. If the plant is using the energy from the leaves let it do so and eventually they will turn brown and fall off on their own.

I agree with the advice above. Mine sometimes do this after a repot. As long as it's just the lowest leaves then don't worry and leave them until they fall off naturally.
