I also wonder since spider mites cause leaf drop if the medium / soil would become a home for mites / eggs that would then infest once again the plant.

When its warm enough I always put fresh new medium in all my plants. Its expensive but they thrive when I put the fresh stuff in. Last year I had giant moth larvea in my hibiscus that scared the living crap out of me. When I did my fresh medium redo. Especially since I found them when it touched me first....ewww....

As Ray said...a miticide is good for mites...and mites only.

If you're interested, the miticide I use is Floramite SC. You have to buy it in concentrate so if you only have a few plants it might not be worth the $$ unless you can find some people to go in on it w/you. It's definitely worth the money though...works great. BTW - Floramite SC kills the eggs and has a 28 day residual.

My Ctsm tend to get mites in the Summer and after a number of years of trying numerous products...friends of mine gave me some of this stuff...and I'll never use anything else for mites again. Well, except those times when I can't spray inside but thankfully I've only had one year like that [*knocks on wood*].

Ray -- how does the sucrashield kill the eggs? I've never heard of anything "natural" killing off the egg stage of mites.
