The mites the club website was talking about are spider mites. It sounds like you have springtails which are not harmful to orchids and a systemic wouldn't help.

I never rinse off any spray I have applied to the leaves - not insecticides nor miticides nor fungicides. I want the "cure" to remain on the leaves for as long as possible.

A good insecticide would have worked better and not damaged your plants. If home remedies really worked as well, some pharma conglomerate would have marketed it. I've seen some work for some and not for others. But I have never seen a commercial product "not" work. And no they don't cause cancer, whooping cough, warts, and any other chemical malady. You breath in far worse stuff in huge quantities every day just from the industrial gunk that pervades the worlds atmosphere today. Just think of all the asbestos on the worlds roadways from brake linings. .
