Hey,

Looks like my sophronitis coccineea is going from bad to worse. When I got it, it is a huge plant with crappy root system.

Over a the last few months some new growths turned black and died, I thought the plant might have just gotten cold on my windowsill at around 14C. Today I noticed a soft squishy pseudobulb that smelled like fermented fruits.

Any clue what coarse of action I should take ?

Remove the rotten growth and spray everything with isopropyl alcohol. If this is an on-going issue, make certain that the problem isn't caused by calcium deficiency.

Ok. Cleaned everything and sprayed with alcohol and peroxide.

I soaked the plant and new medium in weak super thrive and fertilizer and stuck the pot in a bag under the light.

Is the lack of air gonna cause more harm than the lower ambient humidity?

I would remove the bag and put it near a heating vent for a couple of days. Normally, I keep my plants away from heating vents but in this case, you want to keep the plant dry, warm, and disinfected.
I had this happen a few years ago and lost most of my cattleyas and a few other orchids. I discovered that it was caused by calcium deficiency. Now I add a little powdered milk to my water in the spring and summer growing seasons and keep eggshells in my medium. I haven't had any trouble since. This can sometimes run through a collection, too, so watch your other orchids.
Good luck! I have added these links to make it easy to gather further information.
