Sweet Revenge!!!
This is what happened.
Most of my orchids' new blooms and leads as well as several dendrobium keikis were chewed off by something so I thought maybe slugs or insect. ![Sad](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
But I noticed my Bifrenaria harrisoniae had its lead disappear and I thought that the lead was too thick and fibrous for a slug to enjoy. ![Scratch chin](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/scratchchin.gif)
So I sprayed the greenhouse down with a pesticide just in case it was a insect of some sort. But I stole two mousetraps from the garage and set them in the greenhouse yesterday night to see if anything would turn up. ![Scratchhead](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/scratchhead.gif)
I caught one on one trap and two on the other trap this morning.
Then I set them again tonight to see what I get from the veil of the dark night.
So I assumed correctly that it was mice eating their last fill of orchid tissue and peanut butter forever. ![fire](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/firehead.gif)
I was not thankful for the lives of these mice. I was thankful that they were dead.
Anyone have a morbid pest story to share? ![Blushing](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/blushing02.gif)

Well this is not much of a pest story more of a bad dog story.
My little corgi decided to take off with one of my den. orchids...Well after attempting to chase that little fat dog all over the yard I decided a better revenge..One that will teach her stay away from the plant life.
NO TREATIES and NO SPECIAL SOFT FOOD and NO TABLE SCRAPS!
Only took about a week for her to decide to stay away from all things living that were my plants.
I also got some wolf spiders that had decided to take residence near my plants.... them bastards are bigger than a half dollar...YUCK!!! Well I decided to take out my pesticide sprayer and douse them in pesticides then as they were running up the curtains squashed them with my broom.

mice are just plain awful!!! our kitty caught one outside, and was so proud of himself, before I knew it he had dragged it into the kitchen to show off! needless to say, the stunned mouse recovered and took the first opportunity to high tail it under the refrigerator! the dang fat lazy cat let it get away! it took me 3 days and several peanut butter traps to finally kill the monster...the cat looked under the fridge for that mouse for 2 years afterwards, lol....convinced he could get it again....

My plague of mice has returned in the past month or so. Previous years' mice had a preference for leaves of certain Phals and Vandas, but this year they've taken a liking to roots and spent spikes, with just an occasional nibble on leaves.
So far they've evaded snap traps and glue traps on my growing tables. And the mice in the kitchen are adept at eating the peanut butter off the snap trap triggers without setting off the traps. I did manage to snag 2 mice total (plus one found dead of natural causes, I presume). A folding glue trap in the kitchen has numerous patches of mouse fur inside, but no mouse; somewhere a bald mouse is shivering.
I googled "mice eating peanut butter off traps" and found it's a very common problem. Some suggest putting the peanut butter or other bait only on the underside of the trigger, which makes sense and I am trying that now. Another suggestion of a more effective trap was a reusable trap called "The Better Mousetrap." I've ordered a 6-pack of those from Amazon, which I should have by Tuesday.

oh ray, bait is so deadly to other animals....I really hate that stuff...we lost a dear old tomcat to a poisoned rat this past fall....the thing is, it does kill the mouse, but they crawl off and die or while in the process, an innocent cat eats them and dies in horrible agony. it was just horrible what that poisoned rat did to our cat. there was not a thing to be done for him either. it was so very heartbreaking...try anything before that stuff!

Was it that same stuff?
I used to utilize that stuff for years in the greenhouse, and there were no issues with poisonous mice getting elsewhere...they just vanished (probably down into the "fill" below the floor.
