I un-potted the Witch Doctor.

The root mass was a nice whitish beige, firm and clean, no rot of any sort that I could see.

With two tiny little new roots, about 1/4" starting to try to grow.

I did find one small pseudo bulb that had somehow strayed under the potting mix and had no growth on it. That was softish, although still green. I just cut it out.

I Repotted, and hung it on the other awning support, where it will get lots of breeze and a little more sunlight. I'm going to keep my eye on it and see what happens Keeping my fingers crossed!

It almost looks like a sliver of strong sunlight got to it... Is that possible? I've had this happen before..

With one of my Promenaeas, two of its leaves we're yellowing on the tips (none of the other leaves had even one little spot, much less yellowing tips).. It took me awhile to figure out what was reflecting/enhancing the sunlight, (the way it came thru the blinds, & reflected off my metal shelving) and burning the tips of these two leaves, and it was only during a small window of time that this was happening every day (it was already in the upper end of its light tolerance range), and when I moved it, it didn't spread, get worse, or start anywhere else, so I know it was sunburn, for sure (I had checked the angle of the sun before moving it)... I dunno, but maybe that is what is happening to yours?

To me, it looks like old leaves starting to die off. Perfectly natural, perfectly normal. There were probably scratches on the leaves (very common with oncidiums), so the die-back would start from the scratch outwards.

Island Girl I checked but no, no direct sun where I had it.

AlToronto, it could be. The leaves were browner today and looked like they were on the way out. I'll see how it looks tomorrow and perhaps I may change it to less sunlight....

The color looks a little to pale. This is probably a minor fungal problem. But with proper culture this will not adversely affect the plant. Oncids and their relatives have fine sensitive roots which tend to stay wet under the root mass while the rest of the medium dries out. I can tell you right off the bat that this is waaaaaaay over potted. Most oncid types like to be potted in a small pot. As small as practical. They also like to be Juuuussssstttt damp. never wet for any length of time. With this much media it never gets a chance to dry out sufficiently. I would let this dry out and not water it too much. Or.....repot it into the proper size pot. Medium size bark/sponge rock/charcoal mix. Place some gravel in a small pile under the roots and drape the roots over this pile and then pour in your choice of media. Don't pack the media down as this will damage the fine roots. Repotting will take a toll on the current foliage but the succeeding growth will really take off. Oh, and keep this warm.
