Lizards are awesome, the more the better! I have 4 living in my orchid jungle and they always scare me when I water jumping hidden in the plants. We watch them from the living room like watching Animal Planet how they wait and "hunt" the bugs on my orchids, it is a great show!

I do believe garter snakes eat slugs. They are readily available in pet shops. Maybe I wouldn't let them roam around looking for slugs in a NY apartment, but you can rid yourselves of pests in a vengeful way

@King has anyone sent you snails for your snake? Does Cali. have any regulations on that? I keep thinking to send them to you everytime I pull them off and chuck the over my fence. They are about 1" round w no operculum.

slugs and snails came with the new plants and it must have been eggs that hatched on my watch....the fire escape environment must have triggered them to reproduce....but I am nuking them before frost comes and take all my plants indoors....
*It is tempting to have a non venomous snake roaming about in my apartment LOLZ

@Kevin - I no longer need any snails. Got enough to feed the snake with. The time I had posted that request was during an unusual shortage and I used to have 2 Slug Eating Snakes. I now have 1. The other snake probably died from being kept too warm during the summer from a faulty air conditioner.
I really don't know what the regulations for transporting snails are here in CA.

I also love lizards. I have them in the garden, they live in the stone walls. I especially love hatchlings and baby lizards. They are soooo cute.

Lizards are always a welcome and happy sight to me! I get them on my porch in the summer & fall (they r especially active in the fall)... Not sure how many I have, but I absolutely love them! The more the merrier. I would be very proud if they laid eggs in my orchids!
And Bud, you're right, they actually drink off of water droplets/dew on leaves and such, as opposed to drinking out of a saucer of water (which if they had one available, they would most likely not use a saucer of water)

As others have mentioned ... highly unlikely -- I'd even say impossible. All the fossorial (live life underground) dwelling lizards are carnivores/insectivores. Those that live above ground and lay their eggs underground do so only to provide a stable favorable environment for their eggs and to hide the eggs from predators. Hatchlings surface soon after breaking shell.
Odds are your lizards are either some type of anole gecko -- though without a photo that is just an educated guess. Neither pose any threat to your plants.

Must admit, I'm surprised you have been able to find enough snails of appropriate size to do that. There are some beautiful molluscivores out there, but their dietary needs make them impossible for most folks.
Too bad about losing the one snake. I assume both were wild caught imports? If so, the one that died may have also had a parasite load as a contributing factor.
