Paph rot spreading - need to cut fan Male
Default Paph rot spreading - need to cut fan

The rot on one of my paphs is spreading. In an attempt to save the plant, I need to cut the fan. There is a smaller fan growing presently. Unfortunately, it has no roots. Will it be possible to save my plant with this fan? If so, what are some of the best methods to get new roots growing?

Thanks.

I don't think it is likely that a small new fan can survive on it's own ... but, I'm definitely not an expert...
Hopefully some other members can help!

I'm no expert either but until I started using K-lite from First Rays I used to get rot on 1 or 2 plants every year.(I hope I didn't just jinx myself)
If the new shoot is coming out from the fan with rot it won't survive if you cut the fan entirely out. If it's coming out from the other side, off an older growth, it should survive.
If the new shoot is coming off the rotted fan one thing you might try is making a paste with alcohol and ground cinnamon and slather it all over the rotted fan. That will stop any spread of the rot. The plant will look like s#$t for a year or 2 but the existing roots would still be able to feed the new growth.
You really have nothing to lose at this point. I've saved several and lost a few, no guarantees.

post a picture...rot on a paphs is treatable but can be hard if its reached the crown. I would cut in as much as possible and then heavily sprinkle with cinnamon until all areas are covered. I would be careful with watering and provide a good air circulation area. hope that helps.
