Fungus? White fly? Black rot? Help!
Unhappy Fungus? White fly? Black rot? Help!

Hello fellow orchid lovers. I am relatively new to growing orchids. I have always loved plants and since now my family is in Florida I've grown my orchid collection quite a bit! A few of my palm trees in my back yard were infested which white flies and I believe this may have affected my orchids. I've posted a few pictures and want your help on detecting what it is and what I need to do. I've isolated the impacted plants and tried getting information on what to do on the web. This is how I found the forum! I tried uploading pictures of my plants. Let me know if you were able to view them. I have a few Catts and Phals.

I would prefer to try to treat and keep them but don't want anything to spread to other plants.

Please help!

Mariana

I think that's just an old leaf. I would cut it off. Don't put orchids under trees infected with white fly. A black sooty mold, referred to as 'honeydew', falls from the white flies and can coat the leaves of an orchid so it doesn't get any light, and will die. I've had it happen to several orchids myself. I don't see any of that substance on your orchid. I think it's just an old, dying leaf.

Tucker is very knowledgable, so I'm sure he's right! But, I thought that since you said u were looking online, I would give you one of the most helpful sites that I have found for orchid problems. Oh yes, and Welcome to the forum!!! I'm sure you will enjoy it here if you decide to stick around! (which I highly suggest! )

This is a PDF with lots of good info: http://www.houstonorchidsociety.org/...ySueBottom.pdf

There are two charts for pesticides & bactericides/fungicides, in the PDF, & they are not easily readable, so here they are
Fungicides/bactericides: http://www.staugorchidsociety.org/PD...idDiseases.pdf

Pesticides: http://www.staugorchidsociety.org/PD...rchidPests.pdf

Since you are in Florida, this site will help you a lot (it's got a lot of the info that's in the PDF, but it's got other great info too.) St. Augustine Orchid Society - North Florida Orchid Growing
