Sorry to hear about your plant.
It is strange that the plant grows well as you say but those spikes all abort in the spring and only one makes it in the fall.
By the way, if it is fusarium, which it does look like it, letting it die on its own time is also not worth it as fungal spore will spread all over!
If you're going to discard the plant, I would do it now.
Just my opinion.

My Wildcat 'Bobcat' from TJ had one of the older pbs turning brown from the top down.
I really wanted to keep the plant as common as they are, this particular plant is the best I've seen.
So I managed to swist off (I know, not the best way to 'cut' but many pbs so closely located together, not other options) the affected pb without hurting other pbs.
Luckly there were no rings on the cut spot. so I guess it was bacterial rot.
It must have some fungal issues as well I think. I see quite a bit of spotting on some leaves and many older pbs are "bald" with no leaves left, which I think is too soon to lose that many leaves already.
The good news is that this plant is now making more than 10 new shoots. I've never seen oncidiums making this many new shoots at a time. must be a wildcat thing. don't know.
Now I have to decide to divide into smaller pieces or enjoy it as a really big piece.

Well, it would start spikes in spring. They would grow for a while before aborting. This year I had hope that they started early enough in spring that they would make it to bloom before dry hot weather started. But we had some unseasonably hot dry weather in spring, and there they went ...
Plant has been trashed. Stuff soaking in bleach solution.
Good luck with yours! Hehe I know about twisting off pbulbs

Now I have to look closer for the presence of the ring when I divide plants.
I think you did the right thing.
Sadness over the loss will not last long as you see others grow and flower soon.

Yeah ... after my recent buying binge at the San Jose Orchid Expo. - 9 plants + a freebie; maybe doesn't sound like a lot, especially as most were minis, but was already a bit short on space, and planned on only getting 2 or 3 small ones - I began to think about getting rid of some plants, and did trash a couple that had been limping along for a couple of years ...
So, freed up a bit more space now ...

Good to hear and to know! This one of mine just isn't worth it to me to try to save - doesn't bloom enough for how big it is and how much new growth it gets ALL THE TIME!
I will definitely try to remember the copper sulfate, tho - as in the future I may have an infected plant I DO wish to save!

Hehe Or, at least less stress about where to put ones I already have!
And don't have to pot and try to find homes for the extra 4-5 divisions

well, 9 new plants are a lot.
I am still debating whether or not I want to go to a show in Philadelphia this month.
I will most likely come home with some new plants.
