Default In lieu of Physan or Clearys

Due to the hot and humid weather recently I'm noticing bacteral infection on a few of my chids.
I have some Clearys ordered but I really need something in the meantime to keep things in check. Like immediately!!!!!!!!!!

Can I use a dilute bleach solution for this? If not are there any other homemade remedies that I could use?? Would Listerine work??
This would be for Phals BTW

Thanks in advance!!

Judi

I have used swabbing alcohol in a spray, works very well. Don't use on roots or stems.

Cleary's is a fungicide, not a bactericide.

Yes, you can use liquid chlorine bleach - I used to spray everything in the greenhouse monthly with a 1 ounce/gallon solution. (I later switched to Physan, and now use Zero-Tol.)

is this the one ?

Amazon.com: Biosafe 600232 Zerotol Ready to Spray Fungicide/Bactericide, 32-Ounce: Patio, Lawn & Garden

presumably its safe to use indoors if the usual cautionary steps are taken ? I want to use something different to physan as I am convinced that a recent recurring bacterial outbreak can be attribute to physan..........because it seems to happen after every use. Its probably wrong thinking, but I need a change.
Is Castillian Soap a good all-purpose product for spraying ? A lot of people swear by it..

HighSeas - 1 tsp/gal.

Orchidsarefun - yes, that's the stuff. Not sure about indoors, as the peroxyacetic acid stabilizer smells like vinegar.

I find it hard to imagine Physan causing a bacterial outbreak, as it is a really effective bactericide. Quaternary ammonium salts were originally developed for- and are still used as a hospital disinfactant. Tell us more about your treatment regimen.

Regarding the Physan20 - I had 3 outbreaks and it may be coincidental but they were at or around when I was doing preventive spraying. So, about 3 over 8 months.
I have stopped using it and I haven't had any outbreaks for about 4 months. Does this stuff "go off" ? I noticed a blackish residue around the inside of the lid/top too.

What is HighSeas ? Can't find any product listing
Castillian Soap ?

It could be a matter too weak a concentration of the physan killing off the weaker bacteria and other pathogens, basically clearing the deck for the strongest pathogens to take hold. It's the same phenomenon hospitals are plagued with, new antibiotic-resistant strains arise requiring new antibiotics to fight the new strains (lather, rinse, repeat). That's why many growers recommend using treatments with different anti-pathogen chemicals in rotation.
