how long will a virus live on your tools

I soak my tools in a pretty high concentration of physan 20 between cuts and keep everything wiped down with it and haven't (yet) had a problem with virus.

Physan-20 is unlikely to be effective against CymMV or ORSV.

I didn't think alcohol or peroxide were effective either?

I got scissors at the Dollar store and use a propane torch to clean them. They are then put into a bucket of cold water. These cheapo scissors will last for years even under that abuse. I think they were a package of 10 for $10 so I got two packages of them.

Just get yourself a small butane or propane torch at HD, Lowes, Walmart, ect and flame your cutting tools for 5 secs. Nearly all virus RNA are killed (although they aren't truly alive) at 200*f. You don't need to get the blades glowling orange or anything like that. A quick flame and they will be good to go.

Thanks for the advice I will pick up one tomorrow. I figure that will be the best and easiest thing to do.

You could be right about that. Figure I will get a torch and some physan just to be on the safe side. I read that it is good against Fusarium which is reported to be an epidemic in phals now from twain. Most of mine have come from walmart or lowes so who knows where they were shipped from. Thanks for the info.

I get the butane "torches" at the dollar store. Use those or bleach solution. If I am really concerned (I know a plant was sick) I use both. Or use a razor blade I can throw away afterwards .

I can manipulate the gas valve and use the trigger to ignite the flame all with one hand.

Cool, I checked out the link and it looks like a nice one. Thank you. I believe it is high time I got one. Seems to be a necessity for growing orchids.
