Well the inevitable happened

I have been unable to control the fungus and my plant is yelling at me for it in a sense. What might have been blooms are now black and it seems to be kreeping down the spike. Am I going to have to bite the bullet and remove the top of the spike? Should I remove the portions or leaves that also have been effected and use the cinnamon treatment?
The below link is to my original post and has pictures of the begining stages of the fungal growth. In the picture that is of the top of the spike just imagen it as totally black
Thanks Again for all your help,
Joe
While on the subject, any good books you all would recomend so that I may dodge similar problems in the future.
