Mix up a batch of malathion and dip the entire plant in it. Let it soak for a couple minutes. That should kill the buggers.

I would do what James said and then repeat in a week in case any eggs survived the first dose and are now hatched.

Are you sure they are spider mites? Spiders stay above ground on the foliage. Also spider mites are very very small and you have to use a white paper towel to actually see them. They are so small they appear as "dust" on the towel.

That's a good point, Brooke... They r small. Although the Malathion would prob still kill whatever it is, but, I wouldn't wanna use that stuff unless I had to.

I have physian, can I use that? These are extremely small red specs on my roots grouped together in little clusters. The root area around them is deffinitly getting shrunk from them. I could also take the plant out of the pot and rub them off with a q-tip.

You can see spider mites and their eggs with the naked eye, or at least myself and everyone I work with can. Usually spider mites are on the underside of the leaves..but I'm not sure what else it could be. Whatever insect it is, pyrethrin would kill it and isn't nearly as nasty. Usually large spider mite infestations are accompanied by thin spider-like webbing.
You can get pyrethrin here and use it as a plant dunk or just saturate everything with it:

stylingpat, Physan is not an insecticide... It won't kill anything (bug-wise). However, Pyrethrin is an insecticide, so I'd go with that suggestion.
...Although, I've never used it on mites, so I can't advise how to use or how often... Sorry

Could it be an orange fungus on the media? Spider mites do not usually inhabit the pot. They are an above the ground/container pest.

We got that stuff at my garden center, I'll pick some up. Mix up a gallon and just soak the roots in it for a few minutes?
