Sorry. You could have saved it but it was a small plant and it would have taken 3 or 4 years to flower it.

No..actually that was what I cut off....had it for 2 years and it was a consistent blooming cattelya for me

So you still have the parent? I would recut the stem where that came from and dab cinnamon onto it. It will kill any remaining fungus. I occasionally have the problem of rot on new growths and I just cut off the growth below the blackened material and dab with cinnamon. I lose this growth for this year but retain new growth from the base of that grow. I believe excess watering causes most of this type rot.
