Brown Spot on Complex Paphiopedilum: what is it?

Saw this brown spot on either side of a leaf on a new growth. The plant is Paph. villosum X Paph. Hitachi Venus. I thought originally it was sunburn or something, although it is grown under lights so I didnt think that was the case. Then when i was watering I noticed that the brown spot had a darkened ring of green surrounding it. Fearing the spread of disease I carefully cut the leaf below both spots using a disinfected straight edge razor and used cinnamon to help dry the wound.

I'm wondering A) if i did the right thing and B) if anyone can diagnose this. I would hate to have it spread to another plant.
