Thumbs down I'm a dummy. :(

This morning I filled my humidity tray...in the dark. When I got home from class I found that my Cattleya seedling had been wicking the water up all day. I guess that teaches me to fill the tray in the dark! One of the roots on the surface looked mushy and the newest shoot took on a yellowish cast. I put it directly in front of a fan to dry it out! Do you think it will be okay? Did I do what I should have by placing it in front of a fan? Any other suggestions?

It is just a little guy, but he was doing SO well. I would feel like an idiot if that was the way I killed it.

i'm not an expert so I can't say if the little guy will be okay, but we all make mistakes....just the other day I put my mounted Sedirea japonica in for it's daily soak late afternoon, I have fans in my orchidarium so late afternoon doesn't worry me, but dummy me completely forgot about it and it soaked all night long until I found it in the morning...so far no bad signs as of yet.

I once soaked my Bulbophyllum overnight, but Bulbos like to be wet...Catts don't. The mushy root seems to have firmed up again, and it's been in front of a fan for 24 hours now...I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I have forgotten a large orchid soaking in the bathtub once. It was in there overnight. It was a little squishy when it was removed, but did dry out ok later.
Sounds like your taking good care of it though!

Well, that sounds encouraging enough to me! My Catt has been returned to it's position in the window on its humidity tray. The medium dried out pretty well after 48 hours in front of a fan, so I guess all I can do is visit it, give it encouraging words and wish for the best!
