I am new to this forum, I have what I thought a very healthy Phal orchid green glossy leaves green roots and new roots/spikes emerging. It is in a clear pot which I purchased it in about 9 months and I have noticed deep in the potting bark little orange/brown balls, is this some sort of fungus and should I be repotting in fresh medium..the orchid looks very happy. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks .
Fungus will often mean you media is really decomposing, and should be replaced with fresh. Phalaenopsis tolerate repotting quite well, even when in flower. Depending on your medium and growing conditions, on average, once every two years is about right for phal repotting.
Make sure to soak the new medium overnight before using it, and make sure it's an orchid mix and not regular potting compost!
Orange/brown balls might be a slow release fertiliser. I've found those in some orchids. Are they just a few millimetres across (0.1 of an inch or less)? If so there is a good chance they are fertiliser balls.

Thankyou Rosie...yes they are tiny I think they are fertilizer.
