Ross, I am quoting from a detailed document on the website of Lone Star Orchids, San Antonio TX, a vendor for Physan 20. It is titled "Physan 20 Orchid Use." They also recommend it for crown rot. There is a footnote that these applications are approved in 49 states, but still pending and under review in California. Interesting!
I think it can't hurt and might help?

After treating the rotted areas, you can use cinnamon or sulphur powder to help heal the wound.

If your orchid medium stays wet even after one whole day, it means it's horrible and you gotta change it!

I tried the Aussie Gold last year after one of their reps spoke at our local meeting. Sounded wonderful! I shared the cost of one bag with my MIL to test it before buying enough for all the chids...and I am so glad that I did! Within a few weeks, the test plants were showing signs of rot and also had mold developing. Luckily, I caught it in time, treated the rot and mold problem and immediately moved those plants into something else. It's unfortunate that you bought so much...I know it's very expensive and their marketing schtick is untrue.

For root rot, cut away the bad roots and treat the rest...
for crown rot, I add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide or Listerine (the brown stuff, not minty)...leave it for a few minutes then dump it out and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. I've managed to save a few plants using this method. Once you've taken care of the problem, get the 'chids into something other than Aussie Gold.
