Cauterizing cuts?

I was wondering if it is advisable to cauterize cuts that you make. The idea came to me yesterday when I was cutting a leaf and I had no anti-fungal cream so I I decided to heat up a knife and press it against the cut. It sealed but I was wondering if this is bad for the plant at all, I googled a bit but all that came up were articles an cauterizing roses.

I dont know if you can do that or not I have never heard of it I always just put cinnamon

Cinnamon? Does it have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties? I never knew that, all I knew about it is that my cat hates the stuff lol

I use cinnamon all the time on my orchid I use it when I cut the stems the leaves and when I cut the roots

How do you apply it? Do you make a paste or just rub the spice straight on?

Just rub a bit across the cut area. Don't apply a lot on roots because it is a desiccant and could hurt the roots. Some put it on root tips when trimming dead ends away which is likely not going to hurt the rest of the root.

Well now I know what to do in the future, much easier than playing with a torch lighter and metal. Still wondering if cauterization is ever used.

Changing the subject just a bit, do you use disposable cutting tools or do you flame them?

I dust cinnamon onto cuts. I do not touch the cut to apply the cinnamon since I don't want to pick up any sap that might then be transfered to another plant.

At the moment I'm using a pair of wire cutters because I cant find my regular cutters, they do the job just the same. I use a torch lighter to disinfect the tools, cauterized it with an old knife I heated up for a while.
