I have heard of using a hot blade to cauterize cut rhizomes ... I use cinnamon myself. I keep cinnamon away from roots.

As for the worry about transferring sap from one plant to another if dabbing cinnamon on cuts - I always wash my hands in-between if I'm doing cutting or repotting.
