HELP!! Phal has black spots on crown Female
Default HELP!! Phal has black spots on crown

I just received this plant via mail today. upon inspection I noticed some black spots on the crown (both sides). Can anyone tell me what they are and if I should be worried (too late, I already am, lol). The phal is in isolation for now.

I think you cut the affected areas off with a sterilized cutting tool then put a little cinnamon on the cut areas , but I dont know for sure I would do a google search or search crown rot here on orchid board.

I hope your plant makes it

It could have a slight bacterial infection starting. If this were my plant I would pour regular household peroxide on the spots and repeat the next day.

Some people also use the amber colored Listerine or alcohol.

If it is bacterial you want to stop the infection before it invades the stem and can work up to the crown and kill it.

You got it yesterday. Call the vendor before you do anything to it!

Isopropyl alcohol, a few treatments a day will prevent spread. I would alcohol the main part of the orchid and leaves and pour a little in the crown. It will help keep the bacteria from speading. Cutting the orchid might void warranties but the alcohol won't. Send the picture to the vendor right away. Be nice, first compliment the beauty of the orchid, mention how delighted you were that the spike wasn't hurt, then mention your concern and ask for the opinion on what to do. It probably wasn't present when the orchid was shipped (at least assume it wasn't). By treating the vendor as a friend, you will have better success. Good luck!
