SOS! can this phal be saved?
Default SOS! can this phal be saved?

I've been away for a couple of days and when i came back i found one of my orchids half dead! Two of the bottom leaves were full of water and fell off, the roots were all rotten. I only have 2 green leaves that seem to be ok but there are no roots at all! Is there anything i could do! Please help!

SOS! can this phal be saved?
Default Sad

Thats very sad. But thats what happens when orchids are left in standing water - their roots rot. I have rescued plants like this. First, I thoroughly rinse the roots and debride off all nonviable tissue. Then I would dip it in hydrogen peroxide. Next, sprinkle some cinnamon on the plant and stump. Thoroughly spray it with physan-20. Then place it in sphagnum moss lightly moistened with some dilute root stimulator in a well-draining pot. I have even had plants form stump keikis and twins that once were rootless using this technique. Good luck!

If the crown is still green and shows no rot, you can probably save the plant. If not, crown rot is deadly and you will probably need to hold a "farewell service".
