I can bring you a pH tester if you want when I go there. They are relative cheap. I think I paid $12-$15 a vial here(last a while). It's liquid with a test vial. Fill the vial halfway and add a few drops and the colour will change. I use pH 6.0-6.5.

I got turned off by the digital meter with the same reason from David.

Never thought of that. Lots of the reviews of the test strips I read on amazon said they didn't work good, leached colour out of the strip right away and yet others said worked fine.

I feel I shouldn't really need to test as I use rain water and MSU for rain water, but something is not happiness with my Milts especially.

Silken, I know you said you have lots of miltoniopsis.
If you'd like, I will send you division of mine as I will definitely divide all my milt and keep them smaller.
These plants make so many new growths per pbs that I can't handle. lol

I have large white with light brown mask (crazy fragrant), pastel yellow (not so fragrant), rouge available.
I have three other colors too but they are not large enough to be divided yet. One of them, I plan to get rid of. lol
Sorry, I missed this post NYCOrchidman! What do you pot your Milts in? I don't get loads of roots no matte what I try. Yet I don't get many crinkled leaves either. I am trying to let mine get closer to dry before watering suspecting a bit of bacterial issue.

That's very kind to offer to send divisions. It likely wouldn't be so easy getting thru the border of Canada tho because of permits required. I did get several plants from France on E-Bay no problem-not sure why! But it was a gamble I was willing to try!

I got mine from the hydroponic store.

You will be surprised how acidic rain water can be. It really varies on location especially in cities with smog (acid rain). In addition adding some fertilizer on your water further brings down the pH. Some nutrients are not available for the plant on pH 5 or below. The only way to know is to test the pH of your water.

OK, thanks, I would borrow yours or I might be at a hydroponics place in Edmonton so maybe I can get my own. The MSU is formulated for rain water and we don't have much pollution here but I am flying blind regarding pH. I know our tap water is high-8.5 to 9 as I have checked with the city. but i also have MSU formulated for that when I use it too. Maybe I got them switched around - not
