New Phal has dark coloration on roots, is it something to worry about?

Hi everyone,

Just got me a new phal a little while back but today I noticed that its roots on the top of the soil had some sort of dark color to them. I didn't notice root rot there when I bought it so I am wondering if this is something I should worry about?

Or could it just maybe be some residue off the old soil or something?




They aren't really squishy or anything, just a bit soft but that is to be expected from a new orchid from a grocery store They don't know how to water them nicely... And it is a bit dry right now as I didn't know if this was a fungus or anything.

They don't look bad to me. Maybe just some algea growth. Plus, it prob just came out of the greenhouse-into the truck-into the store and just needs some love.

I agree, they look fine to me. My NoId Phals roots can get a brown color and they usually are the roots on the surface of the medium. They also seem to be older roots.

Just make sure the plant is not being overexposed to light and that you are not overfertilizing it or spraying it with incompatible pesticides.
