Botrytis on my Cymbidium?

I purchased a cymbidium in bloom for my yard from a local nursery. The first flower opened and this is what it looks like today:



Do the spots look like Botrytis or is this something else? I hope it is not a virus. I googled Botrytis and slightly different symptoms came up on pictures. I am keeping this cymbidium away from my others right now. I am hoping someone recognizes this.

Not botritis, insect bites imo.

I looked for insects with a loupe but didn't see any. I sprayed the entire plant with insecticidal soap anyway. I can see similar patterns now on all the buds that haven't even open yet. I'm hoping some else have seen similar spots.

I'd vote for insect or some evil hungry ravaging berserk tiny small insignificant snail.

It's very similar to the attacks a little snail did on the flowers of a beloved phal some weeks ago. Happy hunting.

Thrips, Aphids & Ants can do this damage easily but may have gone long before you see the results.

Yep, botrytis would typically display little black specs in the middle of the lesions.

Ray, the pictures don't show it well, but the lesions have a small faint yellow dot in the center of what looks like a wet spot. But, after looking at more pictures online, I agree with everyone that it is not a Botrytis.

Thank you everyone for your input. Looks like the verdict is unanimous - insects of some sort. I can certainly manage it. I will spray it once again with insecticidal soap and make a drenching insecticidal solution for the pot itself. Hopefully that will help.

looks to me more like weather/frost damage. Maybe the bud was leaning against something cold when transported originally..........I see it often in fruit/veges when the fruit has leaned up against the side of a crate....

This is definitely NOT weather related. I suspect, as Roy has, that it was an insect with dirty feet/teeth, hence the possible secondary fungal infection, doing damage to the bud before it opened and has since departed.

Its too late to do anything now, damage is done. You need to do some checking & prevention work when the spikes appear next flowering, long before the buds appear from the sheath.
General pest removal is ok now.
