All of the pesticides mentioned will probably work well. Orthene is another systemic that I've used before. It smells pretty bad for a couple of days. For scale I always use Safer's Insecticide soap and a soft bristle tooth brush. I find that all you need to do is dislodge the scale. It doesn't seem to matter if you actually remove it from the pot or not. Whether you use Safer's or one of the systemics, you always need to do it at least twice and maybe three times, one week apart. That way you get any newly hatching insects.
