Apparently these are often kept as pets. That's likely how the problem began. I saw one on tv guzzling beer on someone's kitchen table. Cute pet, but they better stay away from my beer!

I would definitely keep one of those as a pet if I saw one! Personally, I really like snails - to eat and also just in general.

I always feel bad when I have to resort to lethal measures, but when they just won't be persuaded that my orchids are NOT fine dining, then the gloves definitely have to come off. It's a trip to the sink and a lecture on how they've brought this on themselves before...

Back when we kept pet ducks, our garden was always snail and slug free since that was their favorite food! We even had a muscovy female that loved them so much that she would eat and eat and eat. Ducks swallow them whole, so if you patted her crop you could hear the clinking of shells. Kinda gross!

Camille: I think it would take a pretty large duck to get that snail down whole.

I used to sprinkle salt on slugs as a kid because I hated going out barefoot in the summer and stepping on them. The salt was my revenge.

invasive species...African snail...we have dem here in Trinidad too...also we have another large native one...dey too large to pose problems to orchids....dey usually stay on d ground dey dont climb......we do have a tree snaill dat is annoying though

Yup. I would not put that thing in my hand. No way.
I tried escargot on a cruise as a dare and actually liked it... But I draw the line at this thing.
