maybe using the big guns is drastic, try a home remedy first and spray the plant with hydrogen peroxide...see if you can get rid of the fungi
the spike on the left will produce blooms...whereas the spike on the right have all blasted. I think this is a hybrid that has purple or lavender flowers due to the purplish coloring on the leaves
Its no longer cold in your area and there is lots of humidity by this time of year by the sea...
better put this plant in a window that doesnt get direct sun or put this under a shady tree...and since it is in a coarse media mix, you can do the weekly weakly fertilizer/watering regimen as per your grow zone.

Actually the flowers are a yellowish color with pink tinge. The purplish coloring on the leaves may be a photo artifact.
We're 20 miles inland so it's not very humid here, but it's not desert dry either, so our humidity is probably ok.
So what are the probably causes of bud blast?

Bud blast is caused by change in humidity(moving a plant several feet away from original position) or if you had a drastic change in temperature...cold and damp...or the energy of the plant ran out to give the spike its needed boost(this might be the case in your plant since it has several branched stems on two spikes needing a lot of energy for the buds) the plant just didnt have enough energy

After seeing this pic, I was going to agree with Bud's first assessment, disease. The spike tips end up turning black and shriveling, that's not how a spike normally dies.

Thanks Bud and Camille for your help. I guess the main thing that I learned is that it's not good to move the plant to a new location when it's spiking.
We'll just watch it and see what happens.
