This is a new orchid that I repotted into a new pot and new media. Within a day or so it started growing this fuzzy fibrous stuff which is between the two layers of this pot. It's a net pot surrounded by a plastic one. After I noticed it I wiped the pot down with bleach. I came back after a 4 day vacation to find it back. I then sprayed it down with physan solution. Will this fix the problem? Is this mold? Yes, it's mold. Let it dry out a bit and the mold will go away.

Or, maybe you have a busy spider! Ha!

You could always try re-potting it in a different pot with fresh medium. You can try and find a natural solution for mold.

I agree, repotting with fresh media amy help. Have you tried spraying with listerine? That also works quite well against mold problems. I would also make sure to spray while the mold is actually there, perhaps it doesn't work as well to spray when it has all dried up between waterings

Eahonn, you said that you had a net pot and that is inside another pot. That is perfect breeding ground this time of year for mold. Particularly in your area. If it were me I would take the net pot and put it on a plate and then get a fan running near it. With air circulating the spores aren't as likely to form.

Since you haven't mentioned what type of chid it is, it may also be a question of too much watering.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the input I have repotted it and used fresh media. It is an encyclia radiata. I will get some listerine.

I have an Ency.
I too had this prob with plants before. Mine lives in a terrarium, & I have learnt to let the roots go white, then soak till they go green, not getting the top of the medium wet (as rot/ mould) leaving it out to 'dry' a half day or less and then putting back in the terrarium.
I have no extra mechanical heating /ventilation

I have a similar problem but my mold is growing on almost all of my plants and they have all been repotted in the last month with fresh medium due to the mold problem im having. I have fans running for air circulation, removed plastic pots from clay decorative pots, sprayed with straight rubbing alcohol at the 1st sign of mold then with a fungicide i made out of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and water. NOTHING works for me.I have been letting my plants get drier than i normally would because of the mold, repotted with hydroponic beads mixed in the medium for extra inorganic drainage and i cant get it to stop. Its growing on the outside of my clay pots where i have a spider plant growing. So i KNOW its not the medium. As a test I dumped the dirt out of the pot, scrubbed it, inside and out with steel wool, sprayed it with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, put new dirt and my spider plant in the pot and within a few days the mold was back on the outside of the pot. My obvious concern is that I have mold in my apartment. But I cant bear to lose a chid so I have to keep it off my chids while I talk to my landlord. So I need something strong that works to not only kill the mold but prevent it from growing. Anyone have tips? I have 22 chids and about 17 of them have mold :'(
