I'm new to orchids and I bought this oncidium a week and a half ago, it's a Beallara Tropic Lily ice palace and there are little black spots on the pseudobulbs and on the underside of some leaves and the pseudobulbs look shriveled.

I've already sprayed the leaves with a 3 in 1 fungicide/insecticide/miticide (garden safe fungicide 3) and I have only watered it twice with rain water (last monday and today) because I read on the board that the pseudobulbs shrivel due to underwatering or root rot? So I guess I should water it more often? Am I using the wrong product?

Yup - Oncidium alliance can be prone to spotting. I just keep an eye on things to be sure it's nothing serious. The browned leaf tip is nothing to worry about - it's likely that leaf is on it's way out.

You might also increase your air circulation, it helps with the oncidium brown spots.

Yay thank you for your responses!!! I've been worrying about my orchids so much that I've had 2 nightmares already hehe good to know that it's nothing bad!

Ok I'll water it more and put a little fan near it from now on

Have you repotted it yet? Shriveled pseudobulbs can also be from root rot. If the roots are rotten the plant has no way of getting moisture. So the shriveling could be from over watering which = root rot or from not enough watering. You might want to repot it and check the roots. Welcome and good luck!

Default an update

I still haven't gotten around to repotting this plant because I keep this one at work and my other orchid (which is doing dandy) at home and I hadn't had the chance the bring this one home and repot it outside when the weather was nice.. so the pbulbs are looking a little shriveled still

The flowers on this orchid began falling off and I thought it was because it wasn't getting enough water and when I looked closer today I noticed a ton of little bugs!!!!! under the flowers I think they're aphids
A trip to lowes or home depot is in the near future and I guess I'll have to repot this outside of my office building.. and look a little odd doing it oh well

looks like aphids to me too, spray with a good insecticidal soap on a weekly basis....time to administer some tender loving care! gl
