Bud's home made bug-remedy?
Can someone please give me the recipe? It's water, soap (?), cinnamon...anything else? And in what quantities?
I have discovered some nasty, minimal, pests on my P. schilleriana when I watered it today. They are seriously miniscule and kind of greyish, with rather round bodies. I've never seen anything like them, but I'll try to find out what they are. For now I need to get rid of the ones on the P. schill (it was put in immediate isolation the second I noticed these buggers). So far I haven't discovered any on my other plants, but I won't know for sure until I drench them I think, they did NOT like the water, but I noticed they hopped on the surface on the water after I had dipped the P. schill in it - disgusting! I got rid of that water faster than you can say "PEST!" and checked the other plants I watered together with the P. schill (none was dipped after the P. schill so none shared the water with it, fortunately) and so far no signs of these pests.
Can you please help me? I'll give the schill a thorough wash with soap and water, and then spray it with pesticide. I would really like to use Bud's remedy though, since it won't harm the plants so I can spray ALL of them. Just as a precaution.

I've now washed my P. schill with tepid water and soap. I dried it very thoroughly and saw no disgusting creepy-crawlers anywhere. Also, I've decided to raise the humidity levels since these guys apparently like it hot and dry. Now I need to purchase real humidifiers and some fans too, and I'll be all set.

I think something like drops of rubbing alcohol was mentioned somewhere for that mix.
What soap did you use?
I used water with dishwashing liquid to fight the scale on my vandas, but probably made the mix too concentrated and leaves started to look sort of rough and not shiny, probably dishwashing liquid was too strong and stripped the protective level from the leaves. It looks like they are slowly recovering now, but still leaves are not as nice as before treatment.
So, recently for the spider mites on my paphs I used commercial miticide (which is probably soap based too, because it felt soapy), at least I know it was made for plants and in the right concentration.

I believe it was something like 10 drops dish soap, then water mixed with cinnamon extract, but the exact measurements on that I don't remember.

Oops, I probably saw the recipe with drops of alcohol for something else. Sorry.

I like using neem oil. I have mixed up to 3x recommended strength with no effects on a few different types of orchids and Nepenthes.

We had a speaker at our monthly meet Mon night, and he swore by the following:
2 parts dish soap
2 parts rubbing alcohol
6 parts water
He said this works especially well on scale and mealy bugs

I've been giving all my orchids some version of soap, cinnamon, water once a week for a few months now and the only time they got attacked was when I missed a couple of weeks. Go figure. I've been adding generic Listerine sometimes as well to inhibit fungus.
