Is my Phal sick? Male
Unhappy Is my Phal sick?

Hello everyone. I bought a Phalaenopsis (don't know the exact species though) about 2 months ago. When I bought it I had not read too much about orchids so I did not know how to look for a healthy one. After a while I noticed that the leaves on my new phal were not like the leaves of my other phals. This got me a bit worried. The leaves are green with dark green spots, but not like what you see with some paphiopedilums, it does not look like a leaf pattern, it looks like a disease. One of the leaves has a hole in it (which cannot be from too much sun exposure because I never let them in the sun). Also, the corners of the leaves are of a purple color underneath, and the flower spike is completely spotted, but I think this might be from the plant itself since its flowers are also spotted. I'll attach some pictures to this thread. I would really appreciate if someone could help me! Thank you so much!

Someone else might know better, but to me, your plant looks fine. The hole in the leaf looks like an old cut which has healed. I'm not sure what's on the surface of the leaves, but it doesn't look like any disease I've ever seen. Hopefully someone else will take a look and be able to confirm/disagree.

Your Phalaenopsis is not sick. It has to have the right light because the color of your leaf is too light for a Phal(it must be a darker shade of green ...the mottled leaf is normal to your Phal who might have a Phal. Leopard and a Phal. Stuartiana in the parents...can be seen in the flower coloring spotting and form...the center lip is a typical marlking for a suartiana or a schilliriana...
the hole and the tip of that leaf is a mechanical deffect(something ate the leaf and made a hole)

your plant is dehydrated...it needs watering=spray the aerial roots... the media is too dry and the aerial roots are shrivelling(picture #3)...you must find a fertilizer/watering regimen for your plant depending on your grow zone...temperature, humidity and light inside your room

You Phal's leaves look pretty good to me. The hole is nothing to worry about, the spotting is due to the species in your plant's background. The purplish hue on the bottom of the leaves is typical for some Phals with purple blooms. I don't see the roots, and I suggest you check them, because they will tell you how healthy your plant really is. But as I said before, it looks nice and healthy to me. Enjoy your blooms

Wow guys... thank you so much for your help. I was really worried about it. This phalaenopsis was actually mistreated. When I found it it had signs of some abuse. It was at a store and someone had broken the flower spike to take the flowers. You could tell it had been through a lot. I decided to rescue it but then I was worried it would get my other orchids sick as well. The roots that are overflowing from the pot are doing OK for the most part with a couple that have died. The roots inside the pot look really healthy with no signs of rot. I might need to water it more often. So far I have been watering it once a week but my apartment is a bit dry. I am just starting to get into the world of orchid growing, so I still need to buy a few supplies. I am building a site in my house with perfect conditions for them to thrive. Hopefully I will be able to provide the best possible environment that I can! Thanks again for helping me!
