Viral infection? Male
Default Viral infection?

The plant is Epidendrum ciliare.
I have noticed the leaves are waved in cross section but the blooms revealed no sign of viral infection. Today, i see the new growth that has yellow striae on the leaf, which seems to be virused. Do you have any recommend? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure about viral infection. I've really become a fan of foliar feeding with calcium ( I think it is calcium nitrate) and all sorts of trace elements like iron and molybdenium to support the growth. I really badly underestimated the need and this feeding helped my plants a lot.

The yellow on the leaf in the first picture does look unusual. It's not really one of the classic signs of a virus but, on the other hand, I don't know what it is. The only way you'll know for sure is to order a virus test kit. In the mean time I would keep an eye on it and see what happens. Orchids with a virus often grow very slowly and just don't look healthy.

Tucker is right, the only way to know if it is a virus is by testing.
Why dont you send a sample of a leaf to your local lab? Taiwan has many laboratories that do this and you may also send it to the botanical University where students will be eager to test this in their lab...
I understand your fear since I saw your postings and you have very beautiful orchids...its sad if you have to throw them away because of contamination.

Thanks, Tucker and Bud.
I know an agricultural department nearby where orchid viral test is availabe.
Because the orchid is relatively a cheaper one, i do plan to send a sample there. I now separate from my other plants and will observe it.
