Paphiopedilum Leaf Spot!? Help!
Default Paphiopedilum Leaf Spot!? Help!

Hey all!

Two of my paphs had black spots on the leaves when I bought them originally. Thinking it was just mechanical damage I paid no mind to it. Now these black spots have gotten bigger and have actually began to spread to my other paphs. After doing some research I found it could be a fungal leaf pathogen, bacteria or virus. I want to try and save whatever plants I can prior to this pathogen spreading throughout my collection (which it already started). I have some pictures attached if anyone could help better diagnose the problem so I don't lose any of my slippers!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Pete

I haven't had experience with spots like that but this will give your thread a bump and maybe someone can help. Otherwise I would try treating it with an anti-fungal in the meantime.

I'm no expert but...
The first group of pics look to me like the plant is not getting any water to the leaves. Knock it out of the pot and take a look at the roots and mix. When you get those pock marks on the leaves that indicates a lack of water in the leaves. Looks like either you're not watering enough or more likely, the mix is holding too much moisture and the roots are rotting. If the roots are not healthy, they can't get the water to the leaves.
The second group, I guess you're concerned about that yellow spot. No idea about that.

Bill

I agree with Bill, the Paph(s) in the first set of photos looks extremely dehydrated, and all the dents and spots may just be the consequences of it, or oppurtunitistic pathogens that took advantage of the plants weakened state.
