Default Spider Mites?

Hello, I have seen red bugs that look like spider mites to me running out of the bark medium when watering. It happened in 3 of my phals and one has damage on it's newest leaf. I was wondering how large spider mites can get because these were probably at least 1 mm. But this is twice as big as what I've read on the internet.
Also, I sprayed Safer's 3 in 1 on all my 'chids because I also had some mold on the bark medium. Do you think this would be the appropriate treatment? Also, I sprayed enough that it soaked through the entire pot because these 'mites' or whatever they are were crawling out of it and to get any mold which was further down in the pot. Please tell my I didn't just kill all my 'chids by soaking them with this!
Is Safer's 3 in 1 okay to use? I've read on here other people using Safer's soap, but I haven't seen anything about the 3 in 1. Also, how ofter should I 'reapply'? Or is there something better. I haven't been able to find physan 20 that everyone here seems to use. (I live in Ottawa, ON)
Thanks
Amanda

First, Physan is for mold - not insects. Best case for spider mites is Kelthane. Not sure it's available in Canada however. Miteicides are a real problem for most folks. Mites are best avoided with high humidity, but once you got 'em, you got 'em.
