Got a looking at one of my orchids today, and one of my catts. have both scale and mealy bugs! Where did those come from? Anyway, I took a cotton swab with alcohol on it and wiped almost the whole plant off. What next? The books I have say use insecticide. What do you usuelly do? The plant is well away from all other plants. When it had the pests on it, the catt. was already a little apart from the other plants that I have, and I found no other problems on other plants. Though I know that it can be very short term. So, what do I need to do next?
The only pest that I have gotten was scale, what I used, and it worked very well, was a product called rose and flower insect killer, it's made by a company called Concern, it says it is organic and on the label it says it will kill just about anything including mealybugs and scale, it is also says safe for orchids. I purchased it at the local Armstrong nursery.
i have used orthene in the past... i have watered and sprayed the 'chids down for 3 weeks and then every 6 weeks after that...i have also "cleaned" up the plants with alcohol and a cotton swab...my small infestation has been eliminated...good luck to you
