I'm sorry, but if I had a scale infestation in my greenhouse, I would not be using a formulation that took up to 2 months to take effect. I swear by the wettable powder formulation.

Over here there is only a water soluble form available. I have used it both as a drench and spray. When drenching I actually let the pots sit in the treated water for 15-20 min to give the roots time to take it up (as opposed to just pouring it through). For spraying I add a few drops of dishsoap as a wetting agent to enhance the contact effect. Contact kills most, and once the systemic effect kicks in it keeps them from coming back.

I think I read that the systemic effect is much quicker by drenching as the it's readily abosrbed by roots and transported to other parts via the xylem.

This is by no means the only steps taken, but it has solved a recurrent problem. It also goes without saying that a granular formulation is not appropriate for mounted plants.

For what it's worth, Bayer makes another product, Advanced 3-in-1 Insect, Disease & Mite Control. I use it all the time. It used to be available in a 32 oz concentrate diluted 5.5T/gal. Now it comes with an adapter for outdoor hose use. While I don't absolutely know, I would think it is the same concentrate and they design the venturi spray to administer the same dosage. I use it to spray ALL the chids as well as the cactus and succulents periodically for bugs and vermin!

I drove up to Montreal and stopped to a Lowes upstate and they have Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub granules, with .55% Merit. I could buy it on the way back. I just want to make sure that the granules do not burn the roots. How did you come up with 1 teaspoon per 6" pot. Just want to make sure that they are not too concentrated. This would be good as it is really low on fertilizer.

I also saw Sulfur Dust and Bonides Garden Dust that contains Sulfur and Copper fungicide. which one would be better to have? Are copper and sulfur safe on orchids and what is the toxicity? I have a Gongora and I seem to remember that some products safe on most orchids are toxic to Gongoras, but I may be wrong.

Stefano, here in the US I purchase Merit made for lawns call Grubex. It is the same stuff and I just broadcast it over all the outdoor plants in mid August so I don't bring in any bugs. I don't do any measuring and I've not killed any orchid as of yet doing this way. Keep in mind the granules have to dissolve and be absorbed because you are using it as a systemic so it will take some time to be active.

I am in the usa too. In the nyc area there are not as many products available as in other Places where gardening is more prevalent. Will stop in plattsburgh ny on the way back home and get the bayer tree systemic and sulfur powder that i cant find near home.
