Let me guess - you regularly mist yours, right? If so, that's the culprit. They really dislike misting. An occasional wetting (like from rain) is OK, but regular misting leads to these spots. Could be something else, but I suspect not.

That very well could be the problem. My brassia has them also (not quite as bad), and I, too, am a daily mister. So does that go for all the orchids with pseudobulbs?

Not as far as I know. I only know of Brassias and the intergeneric crosses of Brassias. I can mist Cats and Encyclias all day with no signs of troubles. I have misted Beallara as well as Phals and all sorts of others. Only Brassias. Misting doesn't really do all it's supposed to do anyway. I don't mist my Brassias at all, and they do just fine. Misting can cause this spotting but fertilizing in the hottest part of the summer can cause this too. The heat and fertilizer can cause sugars to form on the leaves and the excessive heat will cause spotting. I sometimes have this problem with my Vandas and Ascocendas.

That is really good information to know, Mikearte! I must make a note of this.

I do not mist the leaves of my Brassias either, and the foliage has remained spot free for the past two years.

I have some black spots on my brassia, too. I called the greenhouse I got it from to ask about them. They told me that brassias don't like as much humidity as the greenhouse had, which caused the spots. So I would tend to agree with the misting theory. However, I am NOT an expert on this particular plant.

I'm pretty new to orchids. But, could it be a virus?

(Boxerfan, I'm glad there's not only orchid-lovers here, but dog-lovers as well!)
