Hi~ This is a late post to the thread, but the 1st phal did get the ROT.
Most phals in most homes do NOT do well planted directly in those decorative pots over time. I have sold literally hundreds of them and advised folks to use them for decoration around another pot that the orchid is actually planted in. On the rare occasion that someone does get them to grow nicely in those pots, eventually there comes the repotting issue-- severly damage the orchid because the roots have grown throughout/out/back inside the air holes and you have to break the pot AND hack the orchid to bits to get them out. They are lovely pots! By the looks of the plants they have not grown in the deco pots for a long time--or have they? Lots of good advisers on this thread. Wishing you great success!!
