Camille and Rocky - be very careful using copper compounds with orchids, as it is toxic to some.

Good to know, but luckily since very few of my orchids go outdoors there's never been a real need to use it. Do you know if there are particular genera that are sensitive to it, or is it more plant by plant?

I'm not a big fan of copper compounds. I used to have a marine aquarium and you can use copper to treat fungus in fish also. I had to be extremely careful depending on what I had in the tank at the time. One drop too many and something ended up floating.
