Ive looked up scale, and it doesn't seem to be the same thing.. & many people say if you wipe them with alcohol they'll move or go away,& ive tried all. I've tried cinnamon on the spots, and then alcohol, but nothing that i use does anything.. /:

Is there anything special I should do for it? & is this the cause of the older leaves dying?

Just be more aware of your watering habits, the problem arises usually in cooler weather when the plant takes in more water than it can get rid of thru transpiration, much like our perspiration. The lesions that it causes can serve as a portal for bacteria and/or fungus. From the look of your plant the lesions appear to have healed with no further ill affect. The scars will not go away so at this pint it is just a cosmetic issue.
As to the loss of the lower leaves, this is quite normal as long as it is only the lower leaves.

I don't know about ice - never used it on the orchids.
As for watering phals, I don't go by schedule. I have them potted into clear plastic pots, so I could see the roots. When they change color from bright green to silvery - it is time to water.
I had the oedema problem with the phal that I kept on the window in basement. I guess it was too cold for it.
I moved it up to warmer location, since then it is growing clean new leaf.
Good luck with your phal.
