General information about the use of good insects and larvaes
Insects/larvae.
Pro:
- zero impact with the environments
- zero development of resistence from the pests
- the insect could cover large area while the larvae should be put near the pests.
Contro:
- this solution can't be used in combination with other systems involving the use of chemical or biological products because similar system are harmful even for the good insect and larvae and on the case of previous use of chemical products, the bad effect could remain even for many months after the treatment
- if you like use insects very specialized against a certain type of pests could require a lot of prey before be effective
- the action against pests isn't always immediate
Sure the adult insect and the larvae eat the pests but initially the adult eat some pests and put their eggs inside the pests, their eggs eat the pests from the inside, but this don't happen on a single day.
- the larvae of good insects often are very similar at their prey, this is a camouflage for avoid of frightening them, so isn't always easy understand which one is the good and which one are the bad.
- don't directly useful against fungi or molds
The insects fly away so the use of adults is more indicated in confined spaces.
But for insects sufficient big i think exist a simple workaround, put a anti mosquitoes net over the plant, at least for some days.
Caution against the ants that defend their herd of aphids against good insects, so could be useful reduce the population of ants on your plant for make the work of good insect more easy.
