HELP! Potinara new shoot black!
I thought a few weeks ago that this was sunburn, but it looks like it rotted or something....someone said that I should not have misted the new growth as maybe some water got in between the leaves/psuedobulb....anyway,
I was advised to pull the leaf out, I tried!, but it won't budge! I need your help! should I cut it off? The only good roots are under this new shoot area, and I really need to save this plant...please help....here's some pictures. As you can see when I tried to pull it out it decided to bend over....man oh man!

It might be sunburn that turned to bacterial rot....You need to pull it out or cut it off before it spreads to the healthy tissue....rot like that spreads fast. Oh and apply cinnamon to the wound. Good luck I hope you get it stopped and on the way to recovery.

Was the spot on the new growth small reddish brown spots turning black. This is an indication of a fungal infection. Fungal infections are usually the result of warm temperatures, high humidity and low light levels. You can treat the plants with a systemic fungicide such as Phyton 27.
Is it possible that somehow water could have gotten in between the growth producing rot?
Hopefully someone will chime in and help with the cutting of this back, never had to do this so I am not at liberty to say, lack of experience there.
If a fungus, might not want to keep it around the other plants...put in the time-out corner until resolved.

Sounds like rot. I have seen this genre along with its fellow members with the shoot so tight. It really stinks I know you were excited about seeing it come out and to the stage it is now. I would cut it back to the first node so to speak. If it appears to be in this area I would cut it to the pseudo. Tess is correct to apply cinimmion to the wound. Keep us updated.

Helen I had a Lc. do this to me last year. It was sporting a new growth when I purchased it, and about a month after I brought it home the new growth turned black. My leaf hadn't emerged yet. I just left it and it sort of dried up on it's own. This year it sent out 2 new growths, one next to the dried up one and a new one in a different location on the plant. At the time I didn't know what to do about the black shoot. Guess I was just lucky. My point is that next year it may go like gang busters for you since it didn't have to put out as much energy to produce a leaf then a flower this year. The glass is half full...

Thanks everyone for your help.. I'm still not sure how far down I can cut it off...I cut right at the pseudo but the black is still inside it approx. 1/2 inch or so....of course it may go deeper but I can't tell of course....
It doesn't seem to have infected or rotted the pseudo, at least not so far and it's been 2 weeks now since I noticed it. I wish I knew if I could cut into the pseudo or not, or, if the pseudo will still form and hold moisture so that the plant can be saved (as you can see the pseudo is still flat and hasn't fully formed yet)...as I mentioned the best roots are part of this new shoot, the others are very iffy, and have been ever since I bought this problem orchid. I'm thinking about leaving it alone now and watch what happens...maybe it will shrivel up and new shoots will start elsewhere....
Thanks again to everyone for your assistance! I hope all of you know how much I appreciate it.
