I just joined because I have the same problem, only yours doesn't look nearly as bad as my Cattleya. I've been scouring the posts looking for some advice on anything I should be doing to make sure it doesn't die. If I knew how you attached your thumbnails, I'd show you a picture of the damage I did to my cat last weekend I hope they'll be ok.
Thanks Dorothy I will use this in the future instead of the attach image that I did with my first post. Those pictures are just way too big. Thumbnails are good
Yep, a bit well-done, like mine rare-medium-rare . The times you gave for direct sun is extreme for any orchid that has not been slowly introduced to direct sun. If your desire is brighter light, might be able to find a sunny spot where it has a bit more shade for a cool-down period during the heat of the day.
If I burn one it is moved to a shadier location to avoid more damage and to control dehydration of the remaining plant leaves , the bad damage will probably dry up , it will look like the devil for awhile but in time the old leaves will be replaced by new . Gin
Thanks Gin, that's encouraging. I'm just not sure it'll ever be tempted to bloom now.
Erin, be assured that one day years from now you'll look back and say to yourself "why did I ever worry so much?" The damaged leaves will fall off one day because leaves on backbulbs fall off eventually even if not sunburned. Chances are the pseudobulbs (the stems below the leaves) are still OK and that's where the plant stores water and food - don't cut them off unless they turn brown. Next season (or perhaps later this year) you'll get a new growth and that one will not have marks. Just be patient.
How timely is your advice. I just picked up my cat to move it to the window and 3 of the older leaves fell off right at the pseudobulb. My heart leapt into my throat. I feel so foolish. check...no cutting off the pseudobulbs. There is one I'm concerned about though, I might take a picture to illustrate. I know you don't like the cats
