When I purchased the plant last year it had two healthy stems. I accidentally broke one, but it grew back. It grew back with bumps on its stems. See picture1. Also it has a new leaf but the leaf has black spots--picture2. I think it may be an infection or a microscopic bug of some sort. Any suggestions as to how to save this plant. Should I move it away from the other orchids. Thanks for any help you can offer.
The pic of the stem looks like a scale infection its a bug move it away from the others so there is no cross contamination im not sure how to kill them though
Looks like scale to me too. I would clean the plant with an alcohol wipe and repot with fresh media into a sterilized pot. Keep it away from your other plants until you are sure you are bug free.

I agree that the plant has scale.
I have tried the alcohol wipes and spraying with 50% isopropyl alcohol etc. and that is okay for a while...but rest assured those buggers are all over the plant.
I moved up to spraying X-clude 1600 which is an insecticide known as Pyrethrum.
So far so good but I have been told they will be back
I am investigating which systemic I'd prefer to handle scale when it occurs again.
I agree, scale on the stem. It is a tenacious pest and spreads to other plants if they are near. I used Merit on an oncidium but sprayed once a week with it for about 6 weeks in a row. I am just watching and waiting to see if they come back. Spraying once didn't do it for me as they came back and it sometimes takes a while to find them starting up again.
